Ingrowing Toenail — Initial Assessment

Think you may have an ingrowing toenail?

This appointment is for anyone experiencing a painful, sore or inflamed toe, or who thinks a toenail may be growing into the surrounding skin.

Your podiatrist will assess your toe to establish what may be causing the problem. If it is an ingrowing toenail, we’ll explain our findings and discuss the ingrowing toenail treatment options that may be appropriate for you.

If something else is causing your symptoms, we’ll explain what we find and advise you on the most appropriate next step.

You don’t need to be certain it’s an ingrowing toenail before you book.

Fungal Nail — Initial Assessment

Concerned about a fungal nail or skin infection?

This appointment is for anyone who has noticed changes to their toenails or the skin on their feet and thinks they may have a fungal nail infection or a fungal toenail.

Changes in the colour, thickness or appearance of a toenail, or changes to the skin of your feet, can happen for a number of reasons.

Your podiatrist will assess your nails and skin to help establish what may be causing the changes. If a fungal infection is suspected, we’ll explain our findings and discuss the fungal nail or skin treatment and management options that may be appropriate for you.

If we think something else may be responsible, we’ll explain this and advise you on the most appropriate next step.

You don’t need to know whether the problem is fungal before you book.

Move comfortably

Biomechanical Assessment — Initial Appointment

Experiencing foot or lower-limb pain when you stand, walk or move?

A biomechanical assessment explores how your feet and lower limbs are functioning and whether aspects of movement may be contributing to the symptoms you’re experiencing.

Your podiatrist will listen to what has been troubling you and assess relevant aspects of your movement, joints and muscles.

We’ll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps for you. Depending on your individual needs, these may include advice, exercises, footwear considerations, further assessment or other appropriate interventions.

You don’t need to know whether the way you move is contributing to your symptoms before you book. The assessment is designed to help us explore that with you.

Would you like professional help looking after your feet?

This appointment is for new patients who would like podiatry care for their general foot health.

Diabetic Foot Screen

A comprehensive foot health assessment for people with diabetes

Diabetes can affect the health of your feet. A regular diabetic foot check or diabetic foot assessment can help identify changes and determine the level of care and protection your feet may need.

During your diabetic foot screen, we’ll assess important aspects of your foot health, including your circulation and protective sensation.

We’ll also consider your skin, foot shape, pressure areas, footwear and how your feet cope with everyday activities.

We’ll use these findings to determine your diabetic foot risk, explain what the results mean and advise you on the steps you can take to help protect your feet.

If we identify that you would benefit from additional diabetic foot protection or specialist care, we’ll explain this clearly and signpost you to the appropriate service.

What to expect (patient-facing Cliniko description):

A foot health check for people with diabetes, carried out by an HCPC-registered podiatrist.

We’ll look at your skin, nails and foot shape, check the circulation and feeling in your feet, look at your footwear and talk about any changes you’ve noticed. Then we’ll explain your foot risk level, what it means and what you can do day to day to look after your feet.

This is in addition to your free NHS annual diabetes foot check, not a replacement for it.

With your permission, we can send a short written summary to your GP.

If you have a wound, a new blister that isn’t healing, or a foot that has become hot, red or swollen, please don’t wait for this appointment. Contact your GP, NHS 111 or your diabetes foot team today.
